Djerba has an immediately soothing quality. The air is warm even outside of summer, the white facades catch a golden light at all hours, and the sea shifts from pale green to deep blue as the day progresses. Gustave Flaubert once wrote that the air here is so gentle it keeps you from dying. Stepping into the Sentido Djerba Beach, you begin to understand what he meant. The hotel makes the most of its privileged position just steps from the beach, with an all-inclusive formula designed to free you from every practical concern from the very first hour.

Arrival

The hotel consists of two low-rise buildings, just one storey high, set within a well-kept garden. This horizontal architecture immediately creates a sense of space and calm, a world away from the imposing tower blocks found at many beach resorts. The 246 rooms are distributed according to available views: garden, pool or partial sea view for standard rooms, direct pool access for Swim-Up rooms, and a more generous layout for Family rooms. Each room covers 29 sqm for standard categories and 44 sqm for Family rooms. All come with a furnished terrace or balcony, air conditioning and heating, a mini-fridge, safe, flat-screen TV with satellite channels and Wifi. The bathroom features an Italian shower and hairdryer. Family rooms add a bathtub and can accommodate up to four guests. Swim-Up rooms, reserved for adults, offer that coveted ground-floor access to the pool, perfect for slipping into the water before the rest of the hotel has even had breakfast. Rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility are available on request at the time of booking.

Dining, all included

The heart of the dining offer is El Kastil restaurant, open for all three meals of the day. The dining room opens onto a terrace facing the sea, which lends both breakfast and dinner a very different atmosphere. The kitchen relies on fresh local produce and travels between Tunisian specialities and European influences: artisan breads warm from the oven, tender meats, generous salads, spiced or creamy sauces. This is a buffet that takes itself seriously. The beach bar keeps the food and drink flowing throughout the day, with full breakfasts in the morning and from 3pm a selection of snacks including pizzas, crepes, waffles and sandwiches. The pool bar welcomes guests outdoors by the water. The El May lobby bar provides a convivial setting for aperitifs and drinks. And for an Oriental interlude, the Moorish café serves Tunisian mint tea with pine nuts or almonds, and orange-blossom Turkish coffee, in a period décor where you can smoke the traditional narghile to the sound of oud and kanoun. On the drinks front, the all-inclusive formula covers beverages at all restaurants, drinks served at the bar, and both alcoholic national cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks at the bar from 10am to midnight. The El Mahboubine restaurant, set by the sea with views over the turquoise waters, serves refined Mediterranean cuisine and is accessible once per stay as a themed dinner, at an additional charge, and must be booked the day before subject to availability. We invite you to check the details of the all-inclusive package directly on the Sentido website, as inclusions may vary by period and room type.

Days by the water

The private beach, equipped with sun loungers and parasols, sits just 50 metres from the hotel, which in practice is no distance at all. Sidi Mahrez beach is within 350 metres. The hotel has two pools, including one indoor pool open according to season, meaning you can swim even outside the warmest months. A solarium with sun beds and parasols rounds out the aquatic offer. For those who need more than a sun lounger, the sports programme is well stocked: yoga, aqua gym, aerobics and step classes, table tennis, a tennis court, beach volleyball, volleyball, water polo, darts, archery, billiards, pétanque and a fitness room are all available. Motorised water sports such as water skiing and banana boat, as well as paragliding and quad biking, are available at an additional charge. The Les Sirènes diving centre, located approximately 1 kilometre from the hotel, is also accessible for a fee. Golfers can reach Djerba Golf Club, about 2 kilometres away, via a hotel shuttle, also at an additional cost. Children aged 4 to 12 benefit from a mini-club with international activities, a dedicated pool, and an outdoor and indoor play area. It is a well-conceived space that genuinely gives parents a few hours to themselves.

Evening vibes

As the sun goes down, the entertainment programme takes over. Each evening features its own line-up: sketches, sports tournaments, role-playing games, dance nights, and once a week a folklore show that brings Tunisian culture to the stage. The animation team is international, making the evenings accessible regardless of which language your table neighbours speak. For those who prefer calm to spectacle, the Moorish café and the El May lobby bar are fine alternatives for winding down the evening in a more relaxed atmosphere, drink in hand, with the warm Djerba night air all around.

Who is it for?

The Sentido Djerba Beach is particularly well suited to families, thanks to its 44 sqm Family rooms, the mini-club for 4 to 12 year olds and the almost immediate beach access. Couples will appreciate the adult-only Swim-Up rooms for their privacy and direct pool access. Seniors will find the all-inclusive formula, the low-rise layout and the nearby beach a relaxing and logistically effortless setting. The hotel also makes an excellent base for exploring the island. The Ghriba synagogue, the open-air street art museum of Djerbahood in Erriadh, Fort Ghazi Mustapha, the crocodile farm and the Casino Partouche 3 kilometres away all make for easy day trips. Djerba-Zarzis international airport is approximately 21 kilometres away, around a 30-minute drive.

The cherry on top

The extra touch: the Moorish café, with its pine-nut mint tea served in an Oriental décor to the live sound of oud and kanoun, is the kind of experience you simply do not find at every beach hotel, and the kind that stays with you long after you have returned home.
