Some hotels chase an international resort look. El Borj leans the other way, leaning firmly into its Moorish identity. Past the gate, stucco arches frame shaded patios where bougainvillea filters the midday sun, and the atmosphere settles immediately into something unhurried and genuinely Tunisian. This is a village-style hotel, informal and family-oriented, where children run between sun loungers and adults sip mint tea under a pergola. That is exactly the mood the place is going for.
Arrival
The 202 rooms are spread across five two-storey buildings, all arranged around traditional patios with views onto shaded gardens. Standard rooms measure approximately 26 square metres, equipped with a balcony or terrace, satellite television, telephone, air conditioning from mid-June to mid-September, a bathroom with shower and hairdryer, and in-room wifi. The safe and minibar are available on request at an extra charge.
Families needing more space can request connecting or family rooms accommodating up to four guests, subject to availability and a supplement. The front desk operates around the clock, a luggage storage service is available, and on-site parking is complimentary.
Dining, all included
The All Inclusive formula covers breakfast buffet from 7am to 10am at the main restaurant, with a late breakfast option at the lobby bar until noon, a detail that families with slow-rising children will appreciate. Lunch runs from 12:30 to 14:30, afternoon snacks from 16:00 to 17:00, and dinner from 19:00 to 21:00. Local alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, hot and cold beverages are included at the designated bars. Canned or bottled drinks sold individually, freshly squeezed juices, imported spirits and shisha at the Moorish café are charged separately.
The Neptune themed restaurant offers one complimentary dinner per stay, on reservation, open from mid-June to mid-September. It is the right occasion to step away from the buffet format. Several bars operate on site: the lobby bar and the Azur pool bar are open until midnight during summer season, while the Big Sur snack bar covers daytime cravings. The two Moorish cafés offer a traditional setting in the evenings, billed separately.
We recommend verifying all-inclusive inclusions directly with the hotel or your tour operator, as details may vary by season and room type.
Days by the water
El Borj has two outdoor pools, one of which is reserved for children, plus a covered heated pool available during the shoulder seasons from late April to mid-June and throughout October. It is a genuine advantage for spring or autumn stays when the outdoor water temperature can still be uncertain. The private beach is directly accessible from the hotel.
The international animation team runs a full daytime programme including aerobics, aqua-gym, beach volleyball, football, tennis, table tennis, pétanque, darts, gymnastics, archery and mini-golf. Padel is available on site at an extra charge. Water sports including water skiing, banana boat, parasailing, kayaking and diving are available in summer through independent operators on the beach and are not included in the package. Quad excursions and golf outings are bookable locally at additional cost. A riding centre is located nearby, independently managed.
The international Kids Club welcomes children aged 4 to 12 from 9am to noon and from 3pm to 5:30pm, with supervised activities and dedicated menus, giving parents real breathing room by the pool.
Evening vibes
Evenings are shaped by the animation team's entertainment programme, which includes shows and live activities. An on-site nightclub is open with drinks available at the bar. The lobby bar and pool bar stay open until midnight in high season. The Neptune restaurant provides a quieter dinner alternative for those who book ahead.
Who is it for?
El Borj suits families who want a structured holiday, with set meal times, supervised kids activities and a private beach without any logistical effort. The patio layout and village atmosphere also appeal to couples and seniors looking for a calm but social setting. The heated indoor pool makes it a strong shoulder-season option in April, May or October for travellers watching their budget.
Those expecting high-energy nightlife, spa treatments within the package or elaborate à la carte dining at every meal may find the offer does not quite match their expectations. But for a straightforward week in Tunisia with sun, sea and a readable all-inclusive formula, El Borj delivers reliably.
✨
The cherry on top
The one thing that stands out: the heated indoor pool, open from late April onwards, makes El Borj a genuinely viable option well before summer begins, when most neighbouring hotels are still finding their feet.
